Thanks to a contribution from UNICEF Australia and donations received from over 3000 supporters at Chuffed.org, Pathfinders will be holding 10 free birth certificate registration events across Western NSW in the coming weeks.

Pathfinders National Aboriginal Birth Certificate Program aims to redress the issues of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples acquiring their birth certificates for identification in Australia.

Having your own birth certificate is a necessity for all Australians, without your birth certificate you are unable to apply for a driver’s licence, apply for a range of employment opportunities, enrol a child in childcare or school, open a bank account, enrol to voting, or apply for a tax file number.

As at 30 June 2022 the program has supported more than 14,000 applicant in receiving their birth certificates and supported the registration of many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples births.

This year the program is heading to Western NSW to hold 10 new sign-up events in Narromine, Condobolin, Lake Cargelligo, Cowra, Orange, Dubbo, Walgett, Goodooga, Lightning Ridge and Collarenebri.
