Therapeutic Home-Based Foster Care

Therapeutic Home Based Care (THBC)

At Pathfinders, we offer a specialised foster care program known as Therapeutic Home Based Care (THBC). This program is designed to provide one-on-one, 24-hour care for children and young people aged 12 and over who have complex care needs. THBC offers a safe and stable environment, supported by therapeutic services, to help young people overcome emotional and behavioural challenges.

What is Therapeutic Home Based Care?

Therapeutic Home Based Care (THBC) provides intensive, individualised care for young people who require more support than standard foster care can offer. Pathfinders’ THBC carers are dedicated individuals or couples who provide 24/7 care in their own homes or in homes provided and maintained by Pathfinders. They work alongside a team of professionals to deliver the therapeutic support needed to help these young people thrive.

Who can be a THBC carer?

Becoming a THBC carer is a rewarding role suited to those with a background in fields such as community services, mental health, youth work, childcare or education. Carers must be able to offer a safe and nurturing environment and be available full-time to meet the needs of the young person in their care. Flexible work arrangements, such as working from home, may be necessary to fully support the child or young person.

Therapeutic Sibling Option Placement (TSOP)

In addition to THBC, Pathfinders offers the Therapeutic Sibling Option Placement (TSOP) program, which focuses on keeping sibling groups together in a stable home environment. TSOP carers provide 24-hour care for at least three siblings or related children, either in their own home or a home provided by Pathfinders.
