Inverell Family and Youth Support Service

Inverell Family Youth Support Service

Inverell Family Youth Support Service (IFYSS) focuses on developing family environments that value, nurture and protect children.

IFYSS provides a broad range of family support, adolescent and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services including:

  • advocacy;
  • skills development including parenting, living skills, relationships, self-esteem and coping skills;
  • interagency information;
  • referrals to other services;
  • hosting courses and information workshops on various aspects of family life, financial planning and the rental market; and
  • group work development in prevention and diversion for young people identified as being at risk.

To support families and young people living in Inverell, Pathfinders IFYSS employs a Family Worker who works with parents and carers of children aged 0 to 12 years covering various issues relevant to raising children, parenting strategies, living skills, improving relationships between family members. IFYSS also employs an Adolescent Support Worker who works with 13- to 25-year-olds on an enormous range of issues including education, bullying, dealing with Centrelink, family matters, sexual health, drug and alcohol use and abuse, vocational training, and living skills development. Similarly, there is also an IFYSS Aboriginal Family Worker who provides support to Aboriginal families and carers of children aged 0 to12 years with the aim of improving educational, social, and health related outcomes.

IFYSS is also an Approved Organisation for Work Development Orders (WDO’s). WDO’s are made by the State Debt Recovery Office to assist people who are experiencing hardship to meet their debt accrued through State fines. In order to help families and young people experiencing these financial issues, IFYSS hosts several courses relating to financial planning and can refer individuals for non-paid work in order to assist them with reducing their financial State debt.

Family Photo Entry Competition: Nominate a Deserving Family!

As part of National Families Week 2025, we’re celebrating the strength and resilience of families in our community.

We know how busy family life can be, and we see the time, energy, and love that mums, dads, grandparents, and carers pour into raising and supporting children and young people.

This National Families Week, we want to honour that effort and recognise the incredible families in our community who give so much of themselves every day.

That’s why we’re celebrating 10 deserving local families by giving them something special: A free mini photo session with a professional photographer!

How It Works

  • We’re inviting community members and service providers to nominate deserving local families.
  • Tell us why you believe your chosen family deserves this special gift.
  • We will select 10 families to receive a free mini photo session with Melissa Bernard Photography.

Each selected family will receive:

  • A 10-minute professional photo session
  • A gallery of 5 professionally edited images to choose from
  • One high-quality digital photo of their choice — free!
  • Optional purchase of additional images if they wish
