About me

I was born and raised in Benue State, which is in central Nigeria to the east of River Niger. I am from a family of two but have some half-brothers and sisters too. My direct sister, who was much older than me passed away at the age of 35 due to liver cancer. The psychosocial impact of this loss was great but it motivated me to help other people who may be struggling or are ill. For example, I chose to train to be a teacher after high school, to
support school-age children.

While at a College of Education, I visited one of my female friends who worked with a Christian NGO group
that supported people living with disability. I was moved by her clients and motivated to help. I felt that if we do not support people
living with disability, they cannot completely support themselves, and most of them would not have a fulfilling life or may die. I visited
the place often and one day I was approached by the senior coordinator of the organisation and asked if I was willing to join their
team. She indicated that she observed the empathy that I was showing toward their clients. I accepted immediately. I was employed by the NGO and had some training while on the job. I enjoyed it and felt the job was rewording.

Shortly after that I got married and migrated to Australia. Due to the value that I hold toward people living with disability, I knew that I would work in that sector.
When I migrated to Australia in 2005, I started work as a volunteer with migrants, refugees, and assisted a disabled girl who lived with her parents. I decided to improve my skills by acquiring a Bachelor of Health, Ageing, and Community Services (BHACS) from the University of New England, which I completed in 2010. Enrolling for this degree also enabled me to secure the job that I am currently doing. I am also currently doing the Master of Social Worker Qualifying.

I was employed with the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care, which later became Aruma. I have worked in the sector for 17 years and now. I am dedicated and committed to my work, always delivering the best services to my clients as much as possible. I am delighted and lucky to be part of this team.
