Supervised Contact Service

Family Visits with our trained supervisors

NPSS are an approved provider of supervised family time visits, through the Department of Communities and Justice Casework Support Scheme (CSS). Our supervisors undergo a thorough induction process that includes education on trauma-informed care and child-safe practices. This training covers, but is not limited to, the rights of children as set out by the NSW Government and the Office of the Children’s Guardian, the importance of family time for both children and their families, and the Six Dimensions of Quality Family Time.

Do supervisors write reports?

After each family time supervision, our supervisors are required to write a report. These reports cover the 6 Dimensions of Quality Family Time as outlined in the SDM Restoration Tool, are written in a professional, judgement free manner and are provided to you within 48 hours of the contact. Each report includes observations of communication, physical contact, interactions during the session, and the responses of the children involved.

What level of supervision is provided?

The sole focus of our supervisors is to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of the children they are supporting. This means supervisors will always keep children and young people within sight, actively listen to all communication, and redirect situations when necessary.

Our supervisors can also offer parental guidance and education to support families going through the restoration process. Whilst keeping the safety and well-being of children at the forefront of our supervision, we are able to tailor the level of guidance, education, and intervention to suit each family’s needs. Our coordinators can discuss the appropriate level of supervision with you upon referral.
