Hobbies and interests
I love anything creative whether it’s a fun crafty activity with clay or paints, doing makeup and nail art, or revamping an old piece of furniture. I also enjoy a good book (or audiobook!) and spending time in the kitchen baking desserts.
What skills can you share with young people during mentoring and how would this benefit young people?
Having been immersed in the beauty industry for 10+ years, with more than half of that time being spent working for myself, I am able to share my knowledge of a vast array of beauty services of interest to young people. I also hold valuable insight in establishing and maintaining a successful
small business.
Why did you become a mentor?
Having worked with children and young people in the OoHC sector for almost five years now, I have learned the extreme importance and value in being a trusted and consistent figure in the lives of the youths I have been fortunate enough to connect with.
What do you think young people get out of mentoring?
I believe mentoring provides young people with the ability to form healthy connections with a trusted adult, as well as promoting a sense of pride and accomplishment at the completion of mastering a new skill or project. Mentoring sessions give the young person something to strive towards and look forward to, often during times of discovery to determine their sense of self and personal interests, values and place in in the world.
