What a fantastic day at the Soul Hub in Newcastle! The morning started with a live interview on the Newcastle ABC Breakfast program featuring Pathfinders CEO Alan Brennan and Sue Prosser from Soul Hub. They discussed all things pumpkin and the purpose of the team’s visit to Newcastle with so many pumpkins.
The team set up at the front of the new, purpose-built Soul Hub, which serves meals to the community daily. Sue Prosser from Soul Hub shared, “We love the Pumpkin Run. It’s one of our favourite events when they come down each year. People are being so generous, and this pumpkin donation will go a long way. We are feeding an average of 150 people for lunch each day, so this will have a huge impact on us and other charities in Newcastle, like OzHarvest, the Salvation Army, and Allambie Care, who have also received large donations.”
Our young people were incredibly helpful throughout the day. They lined up at the kitchen window to serve lunch to all the seated guests and assisted with serving pumpkin scones. They worked diligently in the kitchen and pantry, carrying, stacking, and putting away pumpkins. Everywhere you looked in the Soul Hub, a Pathfinders young person or staff member was pitching in. We are proud of their politeness and engagement, and it was very moving to witness the positive and meaningful interactions between our young people, the diners, and the volunteers.
The new premises of Soul Hub are so inviting. Our young people thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially helping to serve lunch and pumpkin scones. The team made us feel incredibly welcome, and the excellent management and processes at Soul Hub ensured everything ran smoothly. It was a truly inspiring experience to witness the wonderful service Soul Hub provides for the community.
