School Holiday Hubs & Youth Week Fishing Competition

Our Inverell Family Youth Support Service (IFYSS) team had a busy and exciting school holiday period, delivering School Holiday Hubs packed with activities in Ashford and Tingha, along with additional workshops and activities held in Inverell throughout the holidays.

These activities were proudly supported through funding from the Best Community Shed and helped provide young people and families with opportunities to stay active, connected and engaged during the school break.

As part of the school holidays and Youth Week celebrations across NSW, IFYSS also hosted a community Youth Week Fishing Competition that saw an incredible response from young people right across the Inverell Shire.

The idea behind the way the competition was run was in line with the Dream, Dare, Do Youth Week theme by encouraging young people to get involved, spend time outdoors in nature, connect with others, and have the chance to win some of the amazing prizes that were up for grabs.

Over the two-week competition, we received 104 fish entries submitted by more than 20 young people, with many families and friends also getting involved alongside them and joining in the photos and activities.

It was fantastic to see so many young people enjoying the outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and connecting with the community through a fun and positive activity.

Along with the major category winners, many additional random draw prizes and goodie bags were awarded throughout the competition.

The event was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity and support of our community sponsors, who donated a wonderful range of prizes including fishing rods, tackle boxes, tackle bags, lure packs, shirts, hats and gift vouchers.

A special thank you to:

  • Severn River Outpost
  • Motackle and Outdoors
  • NSW Fisheries
  • Project Fishing Inverell
  • Inverell Sporties
  • Inverell H Hardware

We would also like to congratulate Lachlan Brown from Inverell, who won the major prize generously donated by Severn River Outpost – an Ultimate Wilderness Escape valued at $1,800.

The prize included a two-night all-inclusive stay for two people with private access to the Outpost property.

Parents and carers shared very positive feedback about the competition, describing it as a fantastic outdoor experience and a positive community activity that created conversations and connections across the community.

One parent shared how much they loved watching their son have a positive focus during the holidays that got him outdoors and engaged in something he became passionate about.

IFYSS would like to sincerely thank all of our sponsors, supporters and families who helped make these events such a success for young people across our community.
