Pathfinders Pumpkin Run Cooks Lasagna in OzHarvest Kitchen, Sydney

In the heart of Sydney, a heartwarming collaboration took place between the Pathfinders Pumpkin Run team and the esteemed OzHarvest Kitchen. This unique event brought together a passionate team of young individuals who embarked on a mission to combat food waste and support the local community.

OzHarvest a leading food rescue organisation, has been at the forefront of tackling food waste and hunger in Australia. With their iconic yellow vans traversing the country, OzHarvest collects surplus food from various donors, including supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants, and delivers it to charities feeding people in need. With a national presence and passionate volunteers, OzHarvest strives to educate and inspire others about food waste, food security, and sustainability.

On July 5th, the Pumpkin Run team made a generous donation of over 6 tons of pumpkins to the OzHarvest depot in Alexandria, Sydney. With a shared commitment to making a difference, the young Pumpkin Run team members eagerly took on the challenge of cooking with their donated pumpkins in the OzHarvest Kitchen. Under the guidance of the talented OzHarvest chefs, they transformed the pumpkins into mouthwatering pumpkin lasagna.

Split into teams, the Pumpkin Run members spent the morning in the bustling OzHarvest Kitchen, dedicated to preparing the pumpkin lasagna. With aprons donned and knives in hand, they skilfully chopped and sliced the donated pumpkins. The collaboration between the Pumpkin Run team and the OzHarvest chefs created an atmosphere of creativity, teamwork, and generosity.

The result of their efforts was a bounty of fantastic-smelling, warm pumpkin lasagnas. Driven by their dedication to supporting the community, the teams donated these delicious creations to local soup kitchens, ensuring that those in need could enjoy a hearty and nourishing meal. The lasagnas were gratefully received by the Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville and the Newtown Mission Soup Kitchen, spreading comfort and sustenance to those who needed it most.
