On Monday, the Pathfinders Pumpkin Run team had the privilege of attending a morning tea at Government House during the Sydney leg of their 2024 Pumpkin Run.
Being invited to Government House for morning tea has always been a highlight for Pathfinders and our young people. The team receives such a warm welcome each time we visit, and this year was no exception. The Governor captured our young people’s attention from the very beginning, introducing herself to the team with some very entertaining pumpkin trivia that was enjoyed by all.
The Governor thanked Pathfinders for the opportunities their programs offer young people, as well as the young people themselves, who helped at every stage of the Pumpkin Run, from planting, growing, and harvesting the pumpkins, to preparing, cooking, and distributing meals to those in need.
Pathfinders CEO Alan Brennan spoke to the crowd, expressing appreciation for the warm welcome received. He said, “When Pathfinders started the Pumpkin Run 10 years ago, we could never have imagined the impact that a single pumpkin would have. What emerged as a single seed of an idea from our young people has grown into something truly amazing.”
He thanked the many organisations and partners of Pathfinders that support our work and our young people, acknowledged the young people for their hard work this year, and praised Pathfinders staff, specifically mentioning the incredible work done at Tilbuster Station led by Toni Simmons and his team.
After some pumpkin-inspired treats and a tour of Government House, the team set off to continue to make important deliveries across the city.
We are grateful to Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC for her hospitality and ongoing support of Pathfinders and our initiatives.
