Pathfinders is proud to announce the development of a new refuge for women and children escaping domestic and family violence, to be constructed in Glen Innes, following a $7.6 million investment from the NSW Government’s Core and Cluster Program.
For over 30 years, Pathfinders has delivered housing and homelessness support across the New England region. This new project is a significant step in our continued commitment to providing safe, supportive spaces for families in crisis.
The Glen Innes refuge will feature up to eight self-contained units, allowing women and children to live independently while still accessing the vital services and support they need. The design includes private and communal spaces, ensuring residents have access to counselling, legal support, and group programs in a safe and inclusive environment.
The refuge will also include:
- A children’s play area
- A yarning circle to support cultural healing
- A communal vegetable garden
- Wheelchair-accessible units to ensure disability inclusion
This project is part of the NSW Government’s broader $426.6 million Core and Cluster program, which will support an additional 2,900 victim-survivors each year across the state.
Alan Brennan, CEO of Pathfinders, said, “At Pathfinders, we are committed to creating opportunities for families and communities to thrive. The construction of this refuge in Glen Innes is a vital step in providing women and children with a secure place to heal and rebuild their lives. Designed with safety and comfort in mind, the refuge will offer both independence and community — a place where families can begin to feel safe while regaining their confidence and connection.”
Establishing a refuge in Glen Innes means women and children fleeing violence can remain closer to home and community while accessing the care, safety, and support they need. This project aligns with our mission to empower communities, strengthen families, and provide hope for a brighter, safer future.
Construction is expected to begin this year, with doors opening in 2026.
